Gendarmstien from Padborg to Høruphav

Day 1

On the day of your arrival, you can check in at the inn at Bov Kro between 3.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m. You can leave your car parked at Bov Kro throughout the entire hike. There’s no hiking planned on day 1, but if you arrive early, you can walk from Bov Kro to the start of Gendarmstien in Padborg, a round-trip of around 7-8 km.

It’s possible to eat dinner at Bov Kro, but you need to book a table prior to arrival. The evening meal at the inn isn’t included in the price of your stay.

Day 2 – distance 19 km

After you’ve eaten breakfast and picked up your packed lunch, it’s time to lace up your walking boots and embark on the first stage of the hike on Gendarmstien. From Bov Kro to Benniksgaard Hotel, the route runs through Kollund forest and along the banks of Flensborg Fjord. Benniksgaard Hotel is situated in the small town of Rinkenæs, which boasts good views of the fjord. Dinner is served in the hotel restaurant and is included in the price of your stay.

Day 3 – distance 14 km

Breakfast and a packed lunch are served at the hotel before you head off to Iller Slot. Today you have the chance to make a detour to the town of Gråsten, where Graasten Palace and the Royal Kitchen Gardens are well worth a visit (check opening hours online). Otherwise, the route follows Gendarmstien to Kragesand, where AT Taxi will pick you up and drive you to Iller Slot, where you’ll be staying overnight. Check-in at Iller Slot is from 3.00 p.m., and dinner is served in the dining room. The rooms at Iller Slot don’t have their own toilet, so you have to share with guests from another room.

Day 4 – distance 20 km

Breakfast is served in the dining room and a packed lunch is provided for the hike. AT Taxi drives out to Kragesand, where the hike continues on the peninsula at Broagerland. Today’s hike also takes in a beautiful path through the entrenchments at Dybbøl and past the iconic windmill at Dybbøl Mølle. Hotel Arnkilhus, which is located in the centre of Sønderborg, will be your overnight venue. Although you can’t eat dinner at Hotel Arnkilhus, it lies in the immediate vicinity of many of the town’s restaurants.

Day 5 – distance 20 km

At breakfast, you can also make a packed lunch for the final stage of Gendarmstien. From Sønderborg, the 20 km to the end of Gendarmstien run through woodland, fields and water. At the end of Gendarmstien in Skovby, AT Taxi will be ready to drive you back to Bov Kro for the last night of your stay. As was the case on the first night, you can eat dinner at Bov Kro, provided that you book in advance.

Departure after breakfast.
