Cycling holiday from tent to tent – with children

7 days - 6 nights

Take the children with you on a cycling holiday in Sønderjylland. You cycle from campsite to campsite and stay overnight in a large De Waard teepee tent, which is 5 metres in diameter and furnished with two camp beds, dining table with chairs and stool, two pillows and duvets, as well as pots, pans and tableware. Bring sleeping bags and sleeping mats for the kids.

Every day you’ll be cycling between 30 and 35 kilometres. The routes have been selected with children in mind, both with regard to safety and things to see and do.

Day 1

Arrival at Kruså Camping. Kruså lies close to the Danish-German border, and is a lovely campsite with swimming pool, playground and miniature golf. The campsite also has a grocery store, thus enabling you to buy your evening meal.

You can leave your car at the campsite while you’re cycling from tent to tent.

Day 2

The day’s bike ride runs north to the harbour town of Aabenraa. The route enables you to make a detour to Frøslevlejren, a World War II prison camp. Sections of the cycle route are on the historic Hærvejen road and the Baltic Sea Route. Today you’ll be staying overnight at Aabenraa City Camping, which is situated close to the forest, while the town’s beach can be spotted from the campsite. You can purchase breakfast and a packed lunch when making your booking.

Day 3

Today you’ll be cycling to Gåsevig Strand Camping. The stage begins with an uphill climb out of Aabenraa, and takes you through the hilly moraine landscape that’s characteristic of eastern Sønderjylland.

If there’s enough time for a bit of fun on the route, you can make a detour to Genner Hoel, which is home to a climbing park, miniature golf and a pancake house. It’s a good idea to book a table in advance, as the pancake house is very popular. Gåsevig Strand Camping has its own beach, whilst there’s a playground, pétanque square and an event/activity tent.

Day 4

Today’s stage runs through the streets of Haderslev and past various sights. Your destination is Haderslev Byferie Camping, which you’ll reach after just 15 km. The campsite is part of Haderslev Byferie, and is located on the banks of the lake at Haderslev Dam. When you arrive at the campsite, we recommend that you ride around the lake. After beginning your trip through the town, you head north of Haderslev Fjord and the tunnel valley, where a 20-km tour around the lake of Haderslev Dam awaits. At Haderslev Byferie, you also have the option of purchasing breakfast and a packed lunch when booking your stay.

Day 5

The day’s ride begins by heading north of the lake and through the forest at Pamhule Skov, after which you ride south past Hoptrup and up to Sønderjylland’s highest point, Knivsbjerg, which is 97 m at its summit. From here, it’s downhill all the way to Gåsevig Strand Camping.

Day 6

The trip to Aabenraa takes you to the flat landscape west of the E45 motorway. Midway through the route you’ll enter the railway town of Rødekro, which has shops and cafés. From here, the route runs east and leads you along attractive, undulating forest roads to Aabenraa City Camping. You can purchase breakfast and a packed lunch when making your booking.

Day 7

The final stage of your cycling holiday leads you back to Kruså Camping. The trip begins with a hill climb out of the town. The route meanders its way through the gently rolling landscape down to Flensburg Fjord. Approx. 1 km from the route lies Sønderhav, where you can enjoy a hotdog at Annies Kiosk and enjoy the view of Flensburg Fjord and the two small islands known locally as Okseøerne. Your car will be waiting for you in Kruså.

You can also purchase luggagetransfer or an extra night at Kruså Camping. If you wish to do so, then check the “Transport” tab for baggage transfer and “Overnight accommodation” for an extra night at Kruså Camping.

If you experience any problems when booking, please contact Destination Sønderjylland on +45 81824570 from Monday until Friday, or send us an email on info@dssj.dk
