A One-Week Hike on the Gendarme Path from Padborg to Skovby
6 Nights – Between 10 and 20 Kilometers Per Day
The Gendarme Path is Denmark’s first hiking trail to be awarded the “Leading Quality Trails – Best of Europe” title. This means that when you hike the Gendarme Path, you’re experiencing one of Europe’s finest trails—complete with beautiful landscapes, cultural sights, and natural paths.
The Gendarme Path can be hiked all year round. When the leaves have fallen, a peaceful silence settles over the path, and as the trees turn green again, the trail comes back to life.
This package tour includes breakfast each morning and a packed lunch for each hiking day. Your luggage will be transported between accommodations, and some passenger transfers to and from the Gendarme Path are included.
Come to Southern Jutland and enjoy a week-long hiking holiday along one of Denmark’s most beautiful routes, where you'll get close to the local population, nature, and history.
Note: The tour cannot start on a Sunday or Tuesday due to closing days at some accommodations.
Itinerary
Day 1:
Arrival at Bov Kro – check-in from 3:00 PM. With an early arrival, you can hike the first 4 km of the Gendarme Path and enjoy the stunning views along the Danish-German border.
The trail starts at Gendarmhaven, and you can walk along the border before returning to Bov Kro—a small circular walk of about 7 km.
Dinner can be ordered at Bov Kro (not included in the price).
Day 2:
After breakfast, today’s hike goes through Kollund Forest with views of Flensburg Fjord (approx. 16 km). The stage ends in Sønderhav, where AT Taxi picks you up and takes you to Hotel Egely Garni in Gråsten. The hotel is owned by Den Gamle Kro, where dinner reservations can be made (remember to book in advance).
There are also other dining options in Gråsten, and if you have energy left, we recommend a walk in the Graasten Palace Gardens after dinner (not included in the price).
Day 3:
After breakfast at Den Gamle Kro, AT Taxi drives you back to Sønderhav. Continue your hike back to Hotel Egely Garni (approx. 15 km) through towns, coastlines, and fields.
Dinner is at your own expense, with several options in Gråsten. (not included in the price).
Day 4:
After breakfast, the hike continues around Broagerland (approx. 20 km) to the parking area at Kragesand. AT Taxi will then take you to Hotel Sønderborg Strand, where a delicious two-course dinner awaits at Restaurant Bellevue.
Day 5:
After breakfast, AT Taxi takes you back to Kragesand. Today's 20 km hike passes Dybbøl Mølle and the historic entrenchments, ending at Sønderborg Castle. Overnight again at Hotel Sønderborg Strand.
Dinner is not included this evening but can be ordered at the hotel or one of Sønderborg’s other restaurants. (not included in the price).
Day 6:
Your final hike leads through fields and along the water to Skovby (approx. 18 km). You’ve now completed one of Europe’s best hiking trails.
AT Taxi will drive you to Padborg for one last overnight stay at Bov Kro.
Dinner can be ordered at Bov Kro (not included in the price).
Day 7:
Breakfast and departure.
