Maritime City Walk
Aabenraa was the largest shipyard harbor outside Copenhagen in the 19th century. In that period they delivered about 400 large sailing ships for sailing on the seven oceans, including Northern Europe's largest clipper ship Cimber, which in 1857 took the record for sailing between Liverpool and San Francisco.
The “maritime city walk” starts at the Aabenraa Museum with an introduction to the city of Aabenraa and its maritime history around an authentic model of the Aabenraa Harbor in 1865.
After the introduction, the tour goes to the southern part of town and the harbor quarter with stories about the shipping, shipbuilders and ship-owners, who during the sailing season made the city's name known all over the globe. The tour ends at the harbor, which today is Denmark's 5th largest port of goods.
