The Gendarme Path Padborg-Skovby - 4 nights
Enjoy The 84-km-long Gendarme Path from Padborg to Skovby. The path follows the former route running along the banks of Flensburg Fjord, where Danish border gendarmes patrolled from 1920 until 1958. The path follows the coast along most of its length, running through a varied landscape of forests, bogs and meadows.
On 5 May 2015 the 74-km section from Padborg to Høruphav was certified by the European Ramblers’ Association as a “Leading Quality Trail – Best of Europe”, thus making the route the first European quality hiking trail in Denmark. In 2018 the final 10 km to Skovby was added to the route. The trail meets specified requirements concerning diversity of landscape, natural attractions, views, cultural history, sights and infrastructure, conditions underfoot and clarity of marking. The Gendarme Path makes up part of European long-distance path E1 from Rønsdam to Kruså and European long-distance path E6 (stage 16 ff) from Høruphav to Kruså.
On this hike you walk from Padborg in the west to Skovby in the east. There’s a great opportunity to experience the Gendarme Path with beautiful light green colours in the spring, with the option of a dip in Flensburg Fjord in the summer, cloaked in attractive autumn colours or covered in snow in the winther.
